I was thrilled when my my interactive Music Education Concerts were renewed for another year by the Mairie de Paris !
Once again, nursery schools from the 1st to 4th arrondissements of Paris signed up to visit the Mairie of Paris Centre in the 3rd for a one-hour interactive performance exploring the history of music through the piano — from Bach to Gershwin. The children, all between the ages of 4 and 6, were absolutely delightful: curious, energetic, and completely engaged. Their excitement was contagious! This years performances took place in March and April.
This year, I noticed a clear improvement in their focus and participation. I had created a special preparation guide for the teachers to help introduce the concert in advance, and it really made a difference. When children know what to expect — how to behave, how to respond — they get so much more out of the experience.
Below is a short video of one of our new interactive movement activities: listening carefully to the dynamics in Mozart and responding with movement — jumping up for loud passages and sitting for soft ones. Yes, I know this isn’t quite how Mozart imagined his famous Turkish March, but given his legendary sense of humor and love of fun, I like to think he would have approved of the laughter and joy our little game inspired. Don’t you?
